BODY MATH

A favorite quote of many women who watch the show is from Jason. He said “Women have this complex algorithm they use to figure out how they feel about themselves.” (Women’s’ Bodies: Part 2)

This is one of my favorite quotes as well because we do, too often, do this. Sometimes our calculations of ourselves look like:

hair just “ok” + under eye circles not totally concealed x some weird extra pudge that popped up overnight – at least I got manicure / why is there a zit on my leg = I will just get through the day and hope that tomorrows variables yield a more positive, desired result that makes a difference in my experience of self

Now, I just barely made it through Algebra II but even I know this equation is a recipe for disaster. Too often we see the root of ourselves as the thing we dislike the most about ourselves but men do not see this. What they see in us is what they love the most and often, that thing we are hiding, and paranoid about, they don’t ever see until WE bring it up.

Men want women to be happy and to love themselves. I think the mathematical concept we can feel free to subscribe to is that our whole beingness, who we are, is in fact greater than the sum of our parts.
